Duo charged with assaulting MTV reporter bailed

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson granted $65,000 bail last week to two persons accused of assaulting an MTV court reporter.

June Anne St Jules, 43, of 33 Harris Street, Vergenoegen, West Coast Demerara and Rawle Prince, 43, of 70 Benn Street, Wortmanville, both pleaded not guilty to the charges of using obscene language, threatening language, abusive language and public insult when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on November 26, at the said court, the duo committed the offences against Lisa Lowe.
Lowe told the court that she was forced to resign from her job as, “I getting calls that people gon thrown acid on me.” She also said St Jules had threatened her saying “People gon find me body at de back ah de market” and as such she is fearful when going about her business.

In his defence Prince told the court that on the day in question he attended court in support of his brother who had been called to answer to a charge. He said while descending the court stairs Lowe had started to film him and as such he told her that he was not the person she should be taping. Prince said an argument soon erupted among he, Lowe and St Jules. He recalled too that St Jules had threatened to slap Lowe on exiting the court yard.

Prince said a police officer had overhead St Jules making the threat and ordered her to leave the compound; subsequently all three were arrested. He said the case was then sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice and the charges against Lowe were soon dismissed.

The prosecution did not object to bail for the duo though they submitted that it should be granted in a substantial sum. The prosecution also told the court that Lowe’s video camera was damaged as a result of the incident.
St Jules and Prince were ordered to appear in Court Three on January 27.
