Farmer remanded on larceny, armed robbery charges

Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Persid Edmond refused bail to a farmer accused of simple larceny and armed robbery when he appeared at the New Amsterdam court to answer to the charges.

It is alleged that on January 11 at Angoy’s Avenue, Clement Humphrey of Burnham Park, New Amsterdam, stole four car lights valued $210,000 and a car crash grill valued $10,000, the property of Amos Joseph. On the same day, while armed with a knife, he also reportedly robbed Alvin Samaroo of one bicycle worth $12,000 and $10,000 cash. Humphrey pleaded not guilty to both offences.

In opposing bail, Police Prosecutor, Inspector Satrohan Dayaram told court that the defendant is a persistent offender who was recently released from prison.

Humphrey was ordered to appear in court on February 2 for bail review.
