Power turned off for four hours at GPH for maintenance

Persons seeking treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday were inconvenienced after power to the complex was turned off.

This was to allow for some regular maintenance work, Chief Executive Officer of the medical institution, Michael Khan said. Power was cut shortly before 10 am to around 2 pm, persons seeking treatment told Stabroek News. When this newspaper visited at 10:45 am, an ambulance that arrived from Linden with a patient was leaving with the patient. Persons gathered in the waiting area voiced their concern at the power outage as some were told to return home.

Khan told this newspaper that the departments had been notified in advance and nothing was affected by the power outage. Late yesterday afternoon, a large number of persons were in the hospital’s waiting area awaiting treatment.
