Gas station owners allege kerosene discrimination

The Alliance for Change (AFC) has accused GuyOil of being discriminatory in its distribution of kerosene to gas station owners in Corentyne.

In a press release, the party said it has received complaints from several independent gas station owners in this area, that GuyOil has stopped distributing kerosene to their gas stations. The company, however, continues to distribute gasoline and diesel to these stations.

Attempts made yesterday to get a comment from the Managing Director of GuyOil, Badree Persaud, proved futile.

According to the release, GuyOil tankers are only distributing kerosene to a few designated GuyOil gas stations situated at Canje, Fyrish, Belvedere, Port Morant, Wellington Park and Number 50 Village.

Meanwhile, the independent gas station owners who have tankers which could transport kerosene from the New Amsterdam GuyOil Terminal are not being sold any kerosense at this terminal, only diesel and gasoline. Further, when these owners attempt to transport the kerosene from Georgetown to the Corentyne, they are prevented from crossing the Transport and Harbours Ferry at Rosignol.

The current distribution method has caused frustration to many Berbicians, since many of them are forced to join long lines at the GuyOil service stations in order to get kerosene.
