Bus conductor robbed at Agricola stop

A minibus conductor was relieved of cash by two passengers on Wednesday night, moments after the bus stopped on the Agricola Public Road for them to disembark.

Police said yesterday that the conductor, Ricardo Gangadeen was attacked and robbed by two men one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The incident occurred around 9.50 pm.
According to a release investigations have revealed that the route 42 mini-bus with passengers departed from the Stabroek Market and at Agricola the two robbers requested to get off.

As they disembarked Gangadeen was held up and robbed of $7,000 that he had in his hands.
He was struck about his head by the man with the firearm after which the perpetrators escaped.
Up to press time last evening neither had been caught.

Over the last few months unsuspecting mini-bus conductors have been held up at gunpoint by passengers on the Agricola Public Road when the bus stops for them to disembark.

They are relieved of their day’s earnings and jewellery. In one case, a conductor was shot and injured. The gunmen would then make good their escape into the village.
