Another employee of Toolsie Persaud Limited (TPL), who allegedly conspired with the sales supervisor to steal more than $7M from the company, was granted bail in the sum of $1M when he appeared before Acting Chief Magis-trate Melissa Robertson yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Ramkumar Shivnauth, 29, of 50 Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, along with Nefeeza Hafeez, 39, of 58 Parker Street, Providence, East Bank Demerara both pleaded not guilty to ten counts of conspiracy to defraud.
It is alleged that between January 2007 and December 2008 Hafeez and Shivnauth, with intent to defraud, conspired with others unknown to defraud the company by stealing over $7.1M
Attorney-at-law Vic Puran, representing Shivanauth and Hafeez, stated that Shivnauth was placed on $100,000 station bail for the offences that he is accused of. The lawyer then applied for reasonable bail for Shivnauth.
However, Puran stated that Hafeez who was granted $6M bail on Thursday cannot pay that much. The lawyer then applied for a reduction in the bail for Hafeez.
However, the magistrate ordered that the bail for Hafeez remain the same while she placed Shivnauth on $1M bail.
The two will appear again in court on February 5.
On Thursday, Hafeez appeared before the court to answer to 88 charges against her. Among those charges were 44 larceny cases and 44 counts of falsification of accounts and she pleaded not guilty to each charge.
Those charges stated that between January 2007 and December 2008, she allegedly stole money from TPL and falsified accounts to the value of $48,490,063.
Additionally, Hafeez is also charged jointly with another employee, this time an office supervisor of the company, with 11 counts of falsification of accounts to the value of $38,490,000.
In this case, it is alleged that between August 2007 and January 2008, Hafeez and 35-year-old Parmeshwar Singh of 50 Ocean View, Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara falsified the accounts of TPL.
They both pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Hafeez was placed on $6M bail and Singh on $1M. Their cases had been adjourned to yesterday when Shivnauth appeared to answer his charges.
According to Puran, it is impossible for his clients to have walked out of the compound of TPL with all the amounts they are accused of having stolen.
Singh will also appear again in court on February 5.
