Woman assaults landlord, steals electricity – court hears

A woman, who allegedly assaulted her landlord and was caught stealing electricity from an electrical pole, was granted bail yesterday when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Forty-eight-year-old Pat Heywood of Durban Street, Newburg pleaded not guilty to the charges of unlawful assault and fraudulently converting electricity from GPL to her own use and benefit.

It is alleged that on January 14, Heywood unlawfully assaulted Safrose Dey and on the same day she was reportedly caught stealing electricity supplied by GPL from an electrical pole.

The magistrate placed Heywood on bail in the sum of $50,000 and transferred the case to Court Six for February 18.
