Minister opens two schools in Berbice

Minister of Education Shaik Baksh last week commissioned two new state-of-the-art schools in Berbice.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Baksh charged the teachers to ensure that they make adequate use of the facilities. He also appealed to parents to participate in their children’s education since this is crucial to the learning process. The minister said behind every successful school is a strong Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA) and implored the parents and teachers to ensure that their PTA is active.

According to GINA the nursery school houses 112 students and seven teachers while the primary accommodates 60 pupils, teachers, a library and a computer laboratory. It serves children from the communities of John’s, Clifton, Tain and Miss Phoebe. The school was built under the Basic Needs Trust Fund. The pupils had been using the President’s Youth Choice Building.
