Miner to pay $30,000 for illegal exit to Venezuela

A 34-year-old gold miner yesterday pleaded guilty to the charge of illegally departing Guyana when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

On December 10, 2008 at Pomeroon, Adrian Henry of BN 40 Mocha Arcadia Squatting Area illegally departed Guyana without presenting himself to an immigration officer.

When the magistrate asked Henry why he committed the offence he said, “I din plan fuh lef de country but de opportunity come an I decide fuh guh to Venezuela.”

He was fined $30,000 or six months imprisonment.
