Berbice chambers seeking urgent meeting with bridge company

Representatives of the business community in Region Six are seeking to urgently meet with officials of the Berbice Bridge Company to discuss the toll structure and other pertinent issues relating to the smooth operations of the bridge.

The three Berbice chambers in a joint statement yesterday said they were disappointed that a meeting which was scheduled for yesterday morning, was postponed at the very last moment upon the request of the officials of the bridge company.

A press release issued by the Upper Corentyne, Central Corentyne and Berbice Chambers of commerce  said that twenty members had gathered at the Berbice Chamber’s Office in New Amsterdam yesterday waiting to meet with the officials when they received a call from one of the officials in Georgetown asking that the meeting be postponed to tomorrow.

The body said that they were disappointed at the manner in which their members were being treated since a special effort was made to arrange this meeting. The release said that the meeting was only scheduled upon the insistence of the Joint Chambers who wrote a letter to the Bridge Company on January 17, 2009 followed by several reminders.

Representatives from the Joint Chambers are asking that the officials from the Berbice Bridge Company ensure that they attend this meeting.
