A 21-year-old self-employed man was remanded to prison after being charged with the abduction of and carnally knowing a 13-year-old schoolgirl.
Deo Ganpat of Parika, East Bank Essequibo was not required to plea to charges of abduction and carnal knowledge of a female under the age of 15 years and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
It is alleged that on December 16 last year, he had carnal knowledge of the 13-year-old girl. Further, it is alleged that last Sunday at Parika, Ganpat detained the 13-year-old female, “an unmarried girl being under the age of 18 years, out of the possession of and against the will of her mother with intent to unlawfully and carnally know the said (name of girl)”. Reports are that Ganpat and the girl were in a relationship. The matter was reported and following investigations, he was arrested and charged.
He will return to court on March 9 at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
