-plans in train to strengthen army middle management
President Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday told 39 ensigns he decorated at the GDF headquarters that they have an important role to play in enhancing and transforming the agencies they will serve.

In his address to the officers, at Drill Square, Camp Ayanganna, Jagdeo said, “The public is one resource that we must cultivate consistently and aggressively, we serve them and our commitment to that service must be unwavering.” According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the president then urged the officers to make similar commitments to their families, the joint services and the nation.

Jagdeo also charged them to never betray their nation’s confidence nor undermine its trust in them and the joint services to always provide credible and honourable discharge of their appointed tasks. “Newly commissioned Officers this is your day, enjoy it, reflect on what it took to get you here and resolve to attain greater heights as you embark on your different careers,” he said.

Jagdeo also recognised the support given to the officers by their families and urged them to maintain that same interest as the ensigns step out into the larger world of personal responsibility. He also urged the leaders of the various disciplinary forces to nurture the new resources as they are the managers of the future. The president said too he wanted to increase the number of trained officers and the large batch commissioned was the first step in the plan to achieve the long-term goal of replenishing and strengthening middle management in the joint services. The president said he had given a specific number of officers he expects to be trained in the joint services over the next three years.

According to GINA, Quincy Agard was named ‘Best Student’ and he received the Sword of Honour. Agard also captured the Brazilian and Venezuelan armed forces prizes.
