Man assaulted ex-lover, damaged her current boyfriend’s laptop

– court hears

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson last Friday granted bail to a man who allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend and damaged her current boyfriend’s laptop.

Seriah Clarke, 26, of South Ruimveldt pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault and damage to property when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It was alleged that on February 12 at Sheriff Street, Clarke unlawfully assaulted Kenisha Duke. Clarke on the same day was also accused of damaging a laptop valued $120,000, property of Kelvin Bailey.

Duke, who was also present in court, stated that on the day in question she and her current boyfriend, Bailey, were walking along Sheriff Street when Clarke approached them and started expressing his displeasure at her ending their relationship. She said he then chucked her, threw her to the ground and took away the computer that she had in her hand and also threw it to the ground. A report was made to the police station about the incident and Clarke was arrested and charged.

However, Clarke’s relatives recompensed Bailey $120,000 for the damage done to the computer.

The magistrate subsequently placed Clarke on a bond to keep the peace for two years over the damage to property charge and granted him bail in the sum of $10,000 on the assault charge. Clarke has to return to court on April 16.
