Mother, ‘boyfriend’ charged with carnal knowledge of girl, 14

A 25-year-old painter and a 35-year-old woman appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on Friday charged with carnal knowledge committed on the woman’s 14-year-old daughter.

Jaggernauth Andrews called ‘Black’ of Parika, East Bank Essequibo was not required to plead to the charge of carnal knowledge and was remanded to prison by magistrate Fazil Azeez. The woman was also not required to plead and was granted bail in the sum of $30,000.

It is alleged that on Valentine’s Day at Hague backdam, West Coast Demerara, Andrews had carnal knowledge of the 14-year-old girl while it is alleged that the girl’s mother aided and abetted him to commit the said offence. Reports are that the painter and the girl had wanted to get married but she was too young. On the said day, reports say, he had sex with the female at her mother’s home with the woman’s approval. The matter was reported and following police investigations, the two were arrested and charged.

They were ordered to return to the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on March 23.
