Destitute persons defacing monuments – City Council

The Mayor and City Council says it is becoming increasingly concerned about the number of destitute persons living and sleeping around public facilities and monuments in the city.

In a press release the Council said though the Solid Waste Management Department has been trying to curb and clear away litter indigent persons scatter as they rummage for food and other items, the challenge is bigger than the Council.

The Council said though the Ministry of Human Services, NGOs and other stakeholders are working with its Social Development Committee to address the problem comprehensively. The council believes that families can provide more assistance to their indigent relatives.
