No third party cheques for GRA payments

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) says payment of duties and taxes will only be accepted in cash, personal and manager’s cheques and not third party cheques.
According to a press release Commissioner-General Khurshid Sattaur said third party cheques will not be accepted as a form of payment. He said the GRA has taken this stance because it has seen an increase in the number of bounced or fraudulent cheques being submitted for the said payments. “This has resulted in an increase of the administrative burden to (collect) those payments due to the GRA,” he said.
Cheques submitted for payments that do not meet the aforementioned criteria will be rejected, the release said. Additionally, taxpayers who submit personal cheques that are not honoured will be blacklisted and will no longer be allowed to pay by personal cheques unless they have been approved by the commissioner-general.
At the same time the GRA advises the public to pay their taxes on time. Taxes can be paid at the VAT Office or at the Internal Revenue Department.
