City considering rehab of Le Repentir – Benn

This year the Le Repentir Cemetery is “under consideration for rehabilitation including the trimming of trees”, according to Minister of Public Works, Robeson Benn.

In a written response to PNCR-1G Member of Parliament, Volda Lawrence asking the reasons for the “failure” of the Ministry to cut down trees and clean the Le Repentir Cemetery as promised by the Minister as part of the clean up exercise for Carifesta, Benn said that responsibility for the Cemetery falls under the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) of Georgetown.

However, over the years, he said, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications has been assisting the City Council in certain infrastructural works in order to have the surroundings and public spaces in Georgetown, neat and tidy.

In relation to Carifesta X, he said, the Cemetery Road Avenue was cleaned and two bridges along the said road were rehabilitated. He added that in the M&CC programme for 2009, the Cemetery is under consideration for rehabilitation including the trimming of trees.
