‘I verbally abuse she, but me ain’t knock she’

– domestic violence accused tells court

A 35-year-old miner yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on March 12 at Georgetown, Roger Hamilton of lot ‘E’ Freeman Street, East La Penitence unlawfully assaulted Tishonna Benjamin.

According to the defendant, he never physically assaulted Benjamin who is the mother of his child.

“I din knock her, meh Worship,” Hamilton stated. “We had a hard talking an I verbally abuse she, but me ain’t knock she meh Worship.

“I talk to she lil rough fuh stop de marijuana smoking wah she does wan deh smoking in de house. And she slam de door and walk out an de next ting I know is dat de police come an pick me up an tell me dat deh charging me fuh assault.

“I din touch duh girl,” Hamilton stressed.

The matter was called to the bench and a lengthy discussion ensued.

The defendant was subsequently placed on bail in the sum of $15,000 and has to return to court on March 31.
