Guard remanded over carnal knowledge

A 36-year-old father of three was yesterday not required to plead to the indictable charge of carnal knowledge when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara had carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 15. According to Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith, the defendant who is a former policeman “should have known better.” She said further that, “Pereira tried to use his influence over the child in order to have sex with her.”

He was remanded to prison and his matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for March 20.
