Woman, 62, granted $100,000 bail in will forgery case

A 62-year-old woman yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to commit a felony when it was read to her by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that between July 10 and October 10, 2008, Gangadai Reuben of 23 New Anglet Canal, West Bank Demerara conspired to commit a felony by forging one last will and testament with a person or persons unknown.

Reuben’s attorney made an application for bail to be granted in a reasonable amount since his client had already been placed on $20,000 bail by the police.

In addition, the attorney said,  she has a fixed place of abode and poses no risk of flight.

Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith had no objection to bail but stated that it should be more than $20,000.

The cash crop farmer was later placed on bail in the sum of $100,000 and she has to return to court on April 29.
