An elderly man was yesterday morning crushed to death by a ‘bush truck’ at First Avenue Bartica in the vicinity of Relaxing Hotel and CBR Mining; the truck driver is in police custody.
Dead is 86-year-old Gabriel Joseph of Mora Camp, Mazaruni River.
At the time of his death the man was returning home after visiting his brother at the Relaxing Hotel.
Stabroek News was told that around 10:45 am, Joseph was walking in a northerly direction while the truck, GLL6058, was reversing.
At the time the rain was pouring. Joseph walked into the truck and his upper body was crushed by the back wheel of the vehicle.
He was rushed to the Bartica Hospital located a short distance away but was pronounced dead on arrival.
