Fisherman remanded over assaulting mom while ‘lil drunk’

A 41-year-old fisherman yesterday pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful and malicious assault when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

On March 19 at Georgetown, Sheik Mohamed Hassan of 59 Station Street, Kitty unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Hymrajie Parshad.

According to the defendant, he went home drunk on the day in question and hit the virtual complainant (VC), who is his mother. “My Worship, I come in lil drunk de night an I jus give she a lil knock on she forehead. Wasn’t nothing big.”

However, the VC told the court that her son kicked her in the face. “My Worship about 9.30 pm on the day in question, my son came home drunk and started behaving in an unruly manner causing the landlord to talk to him. And when I cautioned him about his behaviour he kicked me in my face.” According to Parshad this was not the first time her son has hit her when he went home drunk.

Hassan was remanded to prison and has to return to court on April 3.
