Mrs Jagan was a patriot and a champion of women’s rights

The Muslim Youth League of Guyana, the Guyana United Sadr Islamic Anjuman and the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex remember late former president Janet Jagan as a patriot and a champion of women’s rights.

In a press release the groups said Mrs Jagan who had had the Order of Excellence bestowed on her, had “committed the greater portion of her life towards the struggles of the Guyanese people.” All Guyanese have benefited from the “unwavering struggles of this beacon of democracy” and while the nation mourns her passing it must endeavour to ensure that the things she fought so valiantly for endure, the release said.

The groups said they are profoundly sad at her passing and extend sympathies to her relatives and friends as well as to the People’s Progressive Party/Civic.
