Lenora Browne, a clothes vendor of Lot 14 ‘B’ Tucville, pleaded not guilty to the charge of felonious wounding.

It is alleged that on March 27, at Young Street, Browne unlawfully and maliciously wounded the Virtual Complainant (VC), Lashawn Morgan, with intent to maim, disfigure or cause her actual bodily harm.

However, Browne’s lawyer, attorney-at-law Leslie Sobers, stated that his client was the mother of a two-year-old girl and that she was an active member of a Seventh-day Adventist Church and that “even Christians get angry”.

He stated that it was an unfortunate circumstance and that “it was a matter of the heart” involving Browne’s fiancé.

Sobers explained that on the day in question his client and Morgan were involved in a fight “when somewhere along a knife appeared” and that there was a struggle which resulted in Morgan being stabbed.

He noted that “it would be a shame if the VC was the aggressor and ended up being injured that badly” while his client emerged with minor injuries.

He posited that the charge against his client suggests that she had intended to kill Morgan but that his client was prepared to show the court that that was not the case.

Sobers had also noted that “the fight took place in a car and it is because of the rumbling and tumbling that the VC suffered her injuries”.

The defence attorney then applied for bail on the grounds that his client presented no risk of flight and that she would return to court if granted it.

However, Morgan, who was also present in court, stated that on the day in question she was attending a function at Duke Lodge, and shortly after she disembarked her car, Browne approached her from behind and told her “yah don’t mean foh lef mey man alone”.

She said that at that point Browne then reached into her handbag and took out a knife and stabbed her five times to her upper back which punctured both lungs and once to her neck.

She said that she managed to push Browne off of her, who then ran back to her car and drove away.

Morgan went on to say that a man then approached her and offered her assistance to take her to the hospital while another woman told her that she had noted Browne’s licence plate number.

She noted that her left lung has healed completely while the right is still healing.

Prosecutor Denise Griffith then stated that “it was not a fight” since Morgan suffered the brunt of the incident while Browne emerged unscratched. She said that it was because of the licence’s plate number that the woman had given Morgan that the police had traced it back to Browne who was later arrested and charged for the offence.

Morgan had also stated that Browne had admitted to the stabbing while at the police station.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that Browne be remanded to prison and that she appear back in court on April 9.
