Tax booths at City Mall, other popular areas

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has made good on its commitment to erect tax advisory booths at well-known city establishments to assist taxpayers with completing their tax returns.

Booths have been erected at the City Mall, N&S Mattai Supermarket and at the Banks DIH Sheriff Street Quik Serv outlet, a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said. The objective of providing the booths is to ensure persons are made aware of the April 30 deadline for filing returns and to provide them with information that will aid in the correct completion of the tax forms.

In a recent press release the GRA had said that taxpayers who file late returns on income, corporation, property and capital gains taxes as well as PAYE and the self-employed tax will automatically incur penalties. The GRA had implemented the Total Revenue Integrated Processing System which requires all taxpayers to have a Taxpayer Identification Number. This automated system will determine non-filers and late filers and process penalties. Taxpayers are therefore advised to ensure that the filing of returns is done within the time specified by law.

The GRA intends to continue assisting the public with the completion of tax returns until month-end at its regional offices as well as at locations in and around the city.
