Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson last Thursday remanded to prison a 33-year-old man who was entrusted with a quantity of clothing to sell for two men but used it for his own benefit.
Thirty-two-year-old Troy Persaud of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to two charges of fraudulent conversion when they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
He denied that Michael Sultan had entrusted him on April 8 with a quantity of clothing valued $281,000 to sell and deliver the said cash that he would have earned to him and instead converted it to his own use and benefit.
He allegedly did the same thing to Sital Persaud who entrusted him with $37,900 in clothing on October 19 last year.
Troy Persaud said that Sultan had called him and offered to pay him to do some work for him but when he got to King Street where he was supposed to have met him “he mek de police lock me up.”
Sultan and Persaud both stated that they would not offer any evidence against Troy Persaud if he returns the clothing or if he recompenses them with the money for it.
Troy Persaud then stated that he was willing to do so by selling his television and refrigerator.
The magistrate subsequently ordered that Troy Persaud be remanded to prison and that he return to court on April 27 with the money to recompense the men.
