Man assaulted TV news anchor – court told

A thirty-three-year-old man yesterday denied assaulting the mother of his child to cause  her actual bodily harm when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

Troy Douglas of Howes Street, Charlestown pleaded not guilty to the charge that he unlawfully assaulted news anchor, Petal De Santos.

He allegedly dealt her several blows about her body on May 10, Mother’s Day, shortly after an argument between them.

His lawyer James Bond applied for bail for him.

De Santos told the court that she had sustained several scratches and bruises about her neck and a swollen forehead.

The magistrate subsequently granted Douglas bail in the sum of $30,000 and ordered that he return to court on June 1.
