The man who was being held at the Fort Wellington Police Station for reportedly forcing poison down a woman’s throat on Monday morning was released on his own recognizance yesterday.
The woman, Iola Ashantie Reynolds, 28, who shared a visiting relationship with the man was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital at around 6:30 am and died a few hours later. Reynolds, a waitress at a Chinese Restaurant at Bush Lot was laid to rest yesterday.
While a post-mortem examination proved that she died from poisoning pathologist, Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan told this newspaper that there is no way to determine whether poison was forcibly given to a person.
Police had said that a report on the matter would be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice on how to proceed.
According to police sources, the man has denied that he “fed” her poison. However, Reynolds’ mother Isha Ally maintained that her daughter told her that the man had given her the poison.
Police sources told this newspaper that the woman had not given them such a report in writing and they had not noticed any “marks or scratches” on Reynolds consistent with being forcibly fed poison.
The man had been arguing with the woman.
Shortly after the man left the woman’s apartment she shouted, “Ow mommy, meh stomach blazing.” She then related that the man had forced poison down her throat.
Her mother who resided at the upper flat with her [Reynold’s] three children, Donna Smith, 11; Keon Smith, 7 and five-year-old Candacy Britton rushed her to the hospital where she succumbed.
