Tain man wanted for ‘questioning in armed robbery’

In a new twist of events, the man who claimed that police “broke open” his door on Wednesday morning to arrest him for a murder that had not occurred is in fact wanted for questioning into robbery under arms.

Police sources told this newspaper that Shane ‘Anil’ Kandhai, 33, of Tain, Corentyne is also wanted for questioning in relation to other offences and asked that he report to the Whim Police Station immediately.

In their failed bid to locate him on Wednesday police took his girlfriend into custody instead; she was released yesterday morning.

According to the sources the woman was assisting with investigations into offences committed on the Corentyne.
The officers had said she was needed for questioning and would be released after they were “through with her.” They said the woman is likely to face charges soon.
Kandhai who has since gone into hiding had claimed that the police knocked on his door without identifying themselves and not sure who they were, his terrified pregnant girlfriend refused to let them in.
According to him, after a while they broke open the back door with “chisel and hammer” and took his girlfriend away because they could not locate him.
However the police denied breaking the door to enter the house. They also said that they are not aware that the woman is pregnant.

The man who said that he felt “violated” had told this newspaper that when he called the station to find out why the woman was being held an officer told him, “If you want to know you have to come…”
The woman who the man had supposedly murdered is the mother of his two children. Even though she is alive and well at Rose Hall he still refuses to go to the station for fear of being locked up as well. He has since removed from his home and gone into hiding.

The officers insisted that Kandhai who is currently “a fugitive” should visit the station and “once he keeps hiding we would continue searching for him.”
