In a brief speech, Dean said  Digicel welcomes the new agreement which was recently made concrete between the two telecommunications  entities  for text messaging services. He said the opening of the five-storey building marks a significant milestone for Digicel noting that it provides further evidence to  Guyana of Digicel’s commitment to quality service for its customers. He said the aim of establishing the office was to have all aspects of the company’s operations under one roof including its marketing department. Dean disclosed that the new edifice will house call centres which will operate on a 24-hour basis and expressed appreciation to Minister Nadir for his initiative in having legislation regarding operations at workplaces on a 24-hour basis enacted in the National Assembly.

Nadir told the gathering that Digicel has made significant strides in enhancing the telecommunications industry in Guyana. He said customers depend on the company for quality service noting that for a utility company to function properly and be efficient, a 24-hour service is necessary.

Nadir called on Digicel and other companies to be aware of labour legislation as regards their operations. These included the recent amendment to the essential services act and legislation passed in the National Assembly last week regarding holidays with pay. He applauded Digicel for its commitment to Guyana and called on other companies to not only provide 24-hour services but to also ensure the safety of their respective workforces.

Before cutting the ribbon to mark the opening of the new building, Prime Minister Hinds said that the establishment of Digicel’s operations in Guyana has seen competition being brought to these shores.  Hinds commended Digicel  for its efforts in the telecommunications industry. He said  persons are able to access the company’s signal as far as up the Berbice River.
