It is alleged that on June 7 at Georgetown, Lindany Phillips, 22, of 1 Meadow Bank unlawfully and maliciously wounded Carl Halley.
Phillips was not required to plead to the indictable charge of unlawful wounding when it was read to her by the Acting Chief Magistrate.
When given a chance to respond, the defendant told the court that she was only defending herself, adding that she had been suffering constant abuse and provocation by the virtual complainant (VC).

Phillips said that she had communicated to Halley that she wanted to end the relationship because of his constant abuse.

“My worship, I tell he dat I want done de relationship and on de day in question, he come by me and hold a screwdriver to me neck and duh is when I pick up de knife,” she said.

Phillips who admitted to stabbing the VC further explained to the court that she never had an intention to kill him.

Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith objected to bail stating that the VC was still hospitalised.

According to initial reports reaching Stabroek News, on the day in question, Halley had gone to Phillips’ residence and had reportedly answered her cellular phone while she went on an errand to a nearby shop.

According to a source, the person on the other end was a man, and when the woman returned home an argument ensued. It apparently escalated and Halley was stabbed.

Phillips was subsequently remanded until June 18 when a report on the VC’s condition is expected to be prepared.
