Struck father with shovel stick

A 29-year-old man on Thursday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer the charges of assault and malicious damage to property.

It is alleged that on March 11 at Georgetown, Jason Jackman of 112 C Field Sophia unlawfully assaulted Cedrick Jackman. On the same day also, it is alleged that Jackman unlawfully and maliciously damaged one vase valued $4,000, property of Cedrick Jackman.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.

According to Jackman, Cedrick Jackman who is his father, had gotten into an argument with his [Jason’s] older brother which resulted in the older brother assaulting their father and damaging his vase, but since he [Jason] was around, he got implicated.

“Me aint had nothing fuh do with dis matter meh worship, but because I went round at de same time with me big brother when dis thing happen, me name call,” the defendant explained.

The virtual complainant was not present in court.

Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith however said that the defendant had hit his father with a shovel stick and pelted a bottle which broke the vase.

Jackman was subsequently denied bail on the assault charge and was placed on $10,000 bail for damage to property. He is to return to court on June 16.
