Errant Linden bus driver fined $60,000

A Linden minibus driver was fined $60,000 when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Glen Pollydore of 104 Lower Kara Kara, Mackenzie was slapped with the fine when he pleaded guilty to the charge of crossing the yellow line at Amelia’s Ward while driving minibus BKK 9348 on June 10.

He also pleaded guilty to the charge of driving the said vehicle on June 10 in a manner dangerous to the public. He was fined $10,000 or one month’s imprisonment and $50,000 or three months’ imprisonment respectively.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Stephen Telford requested that Pollydore’s driver’s licence be revoked for at least three months on the grounds that the offence was of a serious nature and the traffic department has been doing its  best to protect road users and passengers.

He said that drivers have a responsibility to uphold the law and protect passengers but are constantly defaulting, resulting in the loss of life as well as serious injuries to persons.

The request was denied but Pollydore was taken into custody since he did not have the cash for the fines at hand. He appeared shocked at the size of the fines.
