Porter accused of fraudulent conversion

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson remanded to prison a porter accused of converting a push-cart to his own use.

Joseph Weeks, 40, pleaded not guilty to the charge of fraudulent misappropriation when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

It is alleged that on July 4 at Georgetown, Weeks, being solely entrusted with a push-cart valued $20,000, the property of Shanti Narine; fraudulently converted it to his own use.

In his defence, Weeks told the court that he had parked the cart and did not steal or use it. He also said he did not see it being removed by anyone.

The virtual complainant did not attend court.

When the court asked Weeks to state his address he said he had no fixed place of abode and was subsequently remanded.

He was ordered to appear in court on July 21.
