University of Guyana (UG) Librarian Gwyneth George has announced that the 24-hour service provided in the reading room of the library has been suspended until further notice following the small fire on Tuesday night.
Alert staff and students at the University of Guyana Turkeyen Campus quickly put out a small fire on the stairway leading to the Science and Technology Division on the top floor of the library.
The fire was seen around 8:30 pm on a pile of old books which were placed on the stairs for disposal and was extinguished before the arrival of the fire trucks, said a press release from the Public Relations Division at UG
