La Grange crash

The motorcyclist and pillion rider who sustained injuries after colliding with a minibus along the La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara on Tuesday evening are in stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Colin Vieira, 37, of Better Hope south, East Coast Demerara and Ganesh Jairam, 35, of Canal Number One, West Bank Demerara were taken to the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit shortly after 7 pm Tuesday, a GPH release said. Vieira, according to the hospital release, sustained injuries to his right hand and right foot; he underwent surgery that night and was admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU). Jairam sustained injuries to his head and right foot and is currently a patient of the hospital’s Male Surgical Ward.

Both men were resting when Stabroek News visited the medical institution yesterday afternoon. Hospital sources reported that both Vieira and Jairam are in stable condition.

An eyewitness had told this newspaper that the motorcycle was moving north along the western carriageway and the Route 31 minibus was moving south along the eastern carriageway when the “jam up” occurred.

“This motorbike man been riding good good behind this truck and is overtake he overtake de truck and slam right into the minibus,” the eyewitness had recalled, “this man pitch off this bike and lef’ on de road like if he dead.”

When Stabroek News visited the scene of the incident that evening, the police had already collected their data and marked the point of impact on the road.
