Alness family robbed of $500,000

Bandits early yesterday morning robbed an Alness, Corentyne family of over half a million dollars in cash and jewellery before escaping.
The three men, who were all armed with handguns struck at about 1:10am, the police said in a press statement. The police said that 32-year-old Rohit Persaud Dass, a dental technician and three other members of his family were sleeping when his wife woke up and saw one of the suspects climbing through an eastern window and tried to get her husband’s attention.

The men held the family at gunpoint and demanded cash and jewellery. A scuffle ensued between Dass and one of the men during which time a round went off hitting the ceiling, the police stated. One of Dass’ two children was assaulted and the family members stripped of jewellery they were wearing at the time.
The bandits also grabbed US$500, $680,000 – which were in two bags, and three passports. The men escaped. Police are investigating.
