Man stole DJ Kerwin’s plasma TV

– court told

A 31-year-old man, who allegedly stole a television set belonging to a Hits & Jams disc jockey, was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Randy Roy Samuels of Lot 25 Norton Street, Lodge pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him.

He denied that on September 17, he stole a plasma television set valued $360,000, the property of Kerwin Bollers known as DJ Kerwin.

When the value of the television set was read out in court, Samuels chuckled then said, “Ha! Ha! Three hundred and sixty-something thousand fuh a TV. I shoulda get um fuh truth.”

The prosecution told the court that the television set was recovered and is currently lodged at the Alberttown Police Station.

The prosecution then objected to the bail application when Samuels suggested it, on the grounds that he had appeared last month in court accused of a similar offence and if released he may continue to commit similar offences.

Samuels then responded, “De gal that accuse me a thiefing de phone de last time drop de case against me when de case went in Court Three.

“Wah happen de day is that I walk in de shop and de people think I deh mad and dey geh afraid and run out de shop and I see de phone and pick um up. I never rob she.”

When Samuels had appeared in court on that charge, he had caused a ruckus in the courtroom by threatening to strip naked. He had then burst his handcuffs and later wrestled with several policemen as they were escorting him out of the court.

Magistrate Priya Beharry who had presided over the case had even fled her bench.

Magistrate Robertson subsequently ordered that Samuels be remanded to prison and transferred the case to Court Five for October 19.
