Norton Street man remanded over phone cards gunpoint robbery

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday ordered that a 26-year-old man who allegedly robbed a cashier at gunpoint of a quantity of phone cards valued over $270,000 be remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Caffelle Marcus of Lot 25 Norton Street, Lodge, entered a not-guilty plea to the charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and robbery under arms.

Marcus denied that on September 15, he had five live rounds of .32 ammunition and a .32 Walther pistol in his possession without being the holder of a firearm licence.

He also denied that on the same day he used a gun to rob Shellyann Bourne of a quantity of phone cards and scratch cards, totalling $274,400, the property of Ronald Bettencourt.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that Marcus be remanded to prison and transferred the case to Court Five for October 23.
