Bandits chop woman -steal money, jewellery

Bandits dealt a 33-year-old woman five slashes on her neck and chops about her body when they barged into her Yakusari, Black Bush Polder house around 7.45 pm on Friday, carting away over $300,000 in money and jewellery.

Relatives told this newspaper yesterday that Salima ‘Mamzie’ Ally’s throat was cut slightly and she was unable to talk. She also received chops to her head, shoulder and a finger on her right hand.

The woman bled profusely from the wounds and was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

Her brother, Yazid Ally, 34 said he had just returned from the mosque with his family when the bandits who gained entry to the house by breaking a window, attacked them.
He said he was not aware that the men were in the house until his 12-year-old daughter noticed them and alerted him. Three bandits, one of whom was masked were in the house while two others kept watch under the house.

He said the men pointed a gun at him and instructed him not to say anything while demanding money and jewellery. He resisted at first, causing one of the bandits to hit him on his head with a cutlass. Ally said he started to “see all colour” [feel dizzy] and fell to the ground.

The men then turned their attention to his daughter and “choked she neck” and took her to the upper flat of the building where Salima was with her one-year-old son and his [Ally’s] two children.

He said they demanded more money and the one who was masked started to “cut she neck like a fowl with a dull cutlass.” At that stage he took the opportunity to run out of the house to seek help.

He said his sister is separated from her husband with whom she has a 16-year-old son. The boy resides in America. She later became involved with another man and has a one-year-old son with him.

According to Ally she tried to sever the relationship with the other man and he had threatened to “kill” her on several occasions.
