Youth development network urged to remain non-political

Winston Murray, PNCR Member of Parliament, urged members of the National Youth Development Network (NYDN) to remain “a non-political group” but encouraged them to advocate broader youth participation in the various decision making forums in the country.

These remarks were made at NYDN’s biannual convention held at the Carifesta Sport Complex under the theme: ‘Youth! Conduit of Change – Inspiring Leadership for National Development’. Murray also emphasized the important of structuring NYDN’s work toward the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

A recent NYDN press release informed that representatives from the Tobago Youth Council and Partnership Networking for Development in Guyana were present at the convention.

Two motions were also adopted by the organization. NYDN will appoint a committee to review and make recommendations toward the reforming of the organization’s constitution and will support regional and local efforts to fight climate change in addition to registering support for the Liliendaal Declaration on Climate Change.

A new NYDN executive was also elected at the convention. Taffieny Conway is NYDN’s new president. Alaric Withers, Bevon Currie, Chris Heber and Gelia Torres were elected vice-president, secretary, treasurer and assistant secretary treasurer, respectively.
