Cabinet green lights police arms purchase

The armoury of the Guyana Police Force would soon receive a significant boost as Cabinet recently offered its no objection to a contract that would see the purchase of arms and ammunition for the force to the tune of $69.8 million.

The contract for the arms and ammunition was one of the nine Cabinet passed at last Tuesday’s meeting, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon said yesterday.

A new secondary school is to be built at Sand Creek, Region Nine at a cost of $77.7 million while text books for the education sector will be purchased for some US$936,000.

Further, Luncheon said that contracts had been approved for the building of market tarmacs at Diamond, Enmore and Best to the tune of $24.4 million, $29.1 million and $29.9 million respectively.

Equipment for the National Reference Laboratory is to be procured to the tune of $33.3 million and material and filters supplied for the Guyana Water Inc (GWI) Shelter Belt to the tune of $23.9 million.
