Shot Berbice teen charged with eight counts of armed robbery

Eighteen-year-old Rajesh Bashir called Tandan who was hospitalized after being shot in the leg on August 23 was charged with eight counts of robbery under arms at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court recently.

Bashir who was reportedly shot during a robbery was discharged from hospital two Thursdays ago.

He was not required to plead to the indictable offences and Magistrate Chandra Sohan refused him bail.

Bashir along with Ramanand Prittipaul called Ramo, Jewan Pertab called Tadloo and Rajendra Persaud called Don are facing a total of 19 counts of robbery under arms and possession of arms and ammunition.

They appeared at the Albion Court on Tuesday and were further remanded until October 27. The other cases are engaging the Reliance, Whim and Albion Magistrate’s courts.

The court heard that on August 23 Bashir, while in the company of the others and while armed with guns robbed Naresh Ramarsad of a silver band valued at $3000.

On the same day he also reportedly robbed Rishilall Ramkhelawan of one silver ring valued $1,800.

Reports are that he also robbed Deonarine Budraj of one “quake” [fish basket] valued $2,200 and three pieces of seine valued $15,000, all to the value of $17,200.

The court heard too that while in the company of Ganesh Tikalall called Andy, Prittipaul, Pertab and Persaud and armed with guns, Bashir robbed Brijanand Carpen of one 40 horse power Yamaha outboard engine valued at $700,000, 200 lbs of seine valued $640,000,one table model gas stove valued $3,500, one gas cylinder valued $7,000.

It was also alleged that he stole gas jars valued $8,200, one cell phone valued $7,000 and 400 lbs of fish valued 30,000.

He was also charged with robbing Simon Pullingam of Number One Road, Corentyne of one cellphone valued $50,000, a silver band worth $40,000, a total value of $90,000.

Also on that same day the defendant, together with the same accomplices, armed with guns, robbed Budhnarine Surratan of one gold chain valued $75,000, one cell phone valued $32,000, one pair of boots valued $12,000 and $42,000 cash, a total value of $161,000.

He was also accused of robbing Devindra Surratan of two gold chains valued $170,000, one amplifier valued $85,000, two cell phones costing $68,000 and other items to a total value of $512,000.

Further on that same day in the company of the same accomplices, Bashir robbed Devica Surratan of a quantity of gold jewellery valued $700,000, and $500,000 cash, a total value of $1.2M.
