Cabinet clears $191M for police gear

Cabinet cleared a $191.1M contract for the provision of police kit and uniforms and seven others for the upgrading of roads and installation of traffic lights, at its Tuesday sitting.

Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon also announced yesterday that a $17.7 million contract was given the green light for the completion of rehabilitative work in the capital section of the Georgetown prison. He also said a $22.09 million contact was given the no-objection for the construction of a road at Patentia, West Coast Demerara and another for $15.79 million for the installation of traffic light signals at the entrance of the Diamond Housing Scheme. The Mahdia Airstrip will also be rehabilitated to the tune of $23.6M and street lights installed from Vreed-en-Hoop to Parika following the approval of $57.8 million.

Also, Lethem, St Cuthbert’s and Moraikobe in regions nine, four and five respectively will benefit from an upgrade in its electricity supply. This US$421,000 project is being undertaken through the rural electrification programme. The Guyana Power and Light has also been given $241,000 to purchase 1,701 iron meters.
