Trio remanded on break-in charges

Thirty-five-year-old Rudolph Nurse of Campbellville Housing Scheme and Phillip Denney, 35, of Da Silva Street, Newtown, both pleaded not guilty to two separate charges of break and enter and larceny.

Nurse, Denney and Gerald Warde, 25, of Owen Street, Kitty were all jointly charged for another break and enter and larceny matter to which they entered not guilty pleas.

Nurse denied that between October 7 and 14 he broke and entered the home of Lloyd Smith and stole several kitchen and household utensils and a quantity of clothing, among several other items, totaling $412,000 in value.

Nurse stated, “I dunno nothing, nothing at all about these stories, I never do wah dey accusing me of.”

He said that he had received a severe beating from the police who at one point threw him into a trench when he refused to admit to the allegations.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Gomes, the caretaker of Lloyd Smith’s home, stated that he was told that Nurse was the one who had committed the break-in by a neighbour who had seen him doing so.

This case was transferred to Court Three for November 12.

Meanwhile, Denney denied that between July 12 and 20 he broke and entered the storage bond of Dharmendra Kumar and stole 10 table top gas stoves, 3 washing machines, 10 microwave ovens, 50 DVD players among several other items, totalling over $1.2M in value. Prosecutor Deneashwar Mahindranauth  stated that Denney had admitted to breaking into the bond and stealing the articles.

This case was transferred to Court Two for November 9.

Nurse, Denney and Warde also denied that on October 23, they broke and entered the dwelling house of Rajhaween Brajlall and stole 2 laptop computers, several phones, a quantity of jewellery and cash among several other items, valued at over $2.6M

The magistrate subsequently granted Nurse and Ward bail in the sum of $50,000 each for this case and ordered that this matter be transferred to Court Two for November 9.

However, they will only be released from prison if they are granted bail for the other matters against them.

She ordered that Denney be remanded to prison for this matter.

The prosecutor stated that in all these cases none of the items was recovered.

He noted that Warde currently has another matter of a similar nature against him in another court.  He said that after Warde was arrested he admitted to stealing the articles.

The prosecutor then stated that several other charges are likely to be brought against Nurse.
