Victoria amputee still in hospital following chopping

Nicola McDonald aka ‘Zeeta’, who was chopped allegedly by her irate husband on Wednesday, remains in severe pain as she recuperates in the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The 44-year-old, who has lost both of her legs to diabetes, is still a patient of the hospital and her daughter said that her entire body has begun to “swell”.

McDonald’s right thumb was chopped off. She also sustained chops to her back, both hands and about the body during the assault.

Meanwhile, 77-year-old Sheila Govia, who also chopped after she intervened in an attempt to save her daughter, has been cleared for release from the hospital.  Govia said that the pain was not that bad anymore and plans to return to her Victoria home today.

Govia was chopped to the face, hands, feet and about the body.
Leroy Joseph, McDonald’s husband, was taken into custody at the Cove and John Police Station after the incident. He has been charged for the chopping. He will make an appearance at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court today.

On Wednesday at about 12:15, McDonald’s daughter, Odessa, said that she was summoned by an aunt who informed her that her stepfather had gone to their 428 Victoria, East Coast Demerara home and unleashed an attack on her mother. Her grandmother, who had intervened in an attempt to save her daughter, was also dealt several chops about the body, she said.

Joseph was said to be a heavy drinker and would usually become abusive whenever he is under the influence of alcohol.
