Student stabbed with scissors now in HDU

Andrew Benn, 13, of 6 Friendship, East Bank Demerara, who is a student of the Diamond Secondary School, sustained the wound in the left side of his abdomen last Wednesday.  He was admitted to the male open ward in the Georgetown Public Hospital. However, due to complications caused by the wound the teen was transferred to the HDU where he remained up to late last night.

Stabroek News learnt from hospital sources that the child is in a stable condition.
The injured teen had related that during the lunch break last Wednesday he and some other students were “clashing”. He said that some time during this he accidentally touched another student who said that he “chucked” him on purpose. “Me ain’t know if I touch this guy,” Benn said, explaining that a small crowd had gathered to watch students try to better each other in music. A fight broke out between the two boys.

Benn said he and the other student were sent home by the head teacher for the fight and he was attacked outside the school’s compound.

“He told me that the fight ain’t done yet and he pull a scissors out he bag and juk me,” Benn said. It was a small black-handled scissors, he said.
