Body of Le Ressouvenir man found in reservoir

Dead is Mohamed Ahmad Khan of Lot 23 Le Ressouvenir Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara. His relatives believe that he fell into the hole which is usually covered with weeds while in a drunken state.

From all accounts the man was last seen on Sunday when he left his home of three years to work on a minibus.

Speaking to the media outside her home, Khan’s cousin Bibi Zalena Shakir recalled that two children were playing when they detected a strong smell coming from the entrance of the reservoir around 3:30 pm. She said that when they peeped they saw the lifeless body of Khan inside.

A rural constable who resides in the area was called and the police were later summoned to the scene.

According to Shakir, her cousin who moved to the area following the death of his father was a frequent drinker and she believes this habit led to his death.

She said that the man also had problems with his eyes as a result of which he had to leave his job at the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Estate. Since then the father of two has been doing odd jobs for people around the area.

Police are continuing their investigations and are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.
