Man assaulted ex-girlfriend who declined date – court hears

The allegation is that on November 9 at Georgetown, Frederick Henry of lot F Victoria Road, Plaisance assaulted Julia Kanhai.

The contractor pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault when they were read to him by the magistrate.

When given a chance to speak, the accused only said that he was innocent of the charges laid against him. “Meh worship, me en do Julia noting, and me en know bout these charges.”

The virtual complainant (VC) declined to speak when given the opportunity.

The prosecutor in giving the facts of the case told the court that on the day in question the defendant who once shared a relationship with the VC requested to take her out since it was her birthday. She refused and according to the prosecutor the defendant dealt the woman several cuffs.

Sometime after, on the same day, the prosecutor stated that the accused saw the VC again and repeated his earlier request about  going on a date.  She again refused and the defendant began hitting the woman again and he proceeded to push her into a car.

He was seen by a mobile police patrol that subsequently arrested him.

The defendant was later remanded to prison until November 30.
