Ruimveldt shooting suspect granted bail

De Freitas, who is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of discharging a loaded firearm, was granted bail in the sum of $300,000, after his attorney Nigel Hughes made a petition on his behalf.

According to the court documents, De Freitas was granted $100, 000 bail on each charge of attempted murder and $50, 000 on each charge of discharging a loaded firearm.

The court documents stated that bail was granted after the prosecution did not object.

It is alleged that on October 25 at River View, Ruimveldt, De Freitas, with the intent to commit murder, discharged a loaded firearm at Cheryl Marques, a woman with whom he had a relationship.

De Freitas is also accused of discharging a loaded firearm at Mark Fernandes with the intention of killing him.

Following the incident, police in a press release said that the accused and Marques had an argument during which the defendant allegedly assaulted the woman. Fernandes, who was in the vicinity, allegedly intervened in the couple’s argument.

The suspect then left, returned with a firearm and discharged rounds hitting Fernandes in his chest and Marques in her right thigh, the police said.

After reportedly being on the run following the incident, De Freitas subsequently turned himself over to the police, where he was charged and brought before the courts.
